J. Gresham Barrett, 1983     

A two-term Republican US Congressman from South Carolina he had previously served in the SC House of Representatives. Noted for a conservative voting record and principled approach toward government, Barrett felt the 2009 congressional pay raise was unmerited so he donated his to a charity. Lost a run-off election for SC governor in 2008.
