U.S. Senator from SC, 1954. With a $25,000 loan in 1920, he founded and developed Daniel Construction Co.,which became the largest construction company in the world at the time. The company became legendary for building industrial plants "The Daniel Way"-------without a contract, formal agreement, or a single line of writing, just a handshake. President Kennedy awarded him the "Industrialist Of The Year" Award in 1963. Daniel attended The Citadel for 2 years, answered the call to arms to serve in WW1 and never attended another college. The Citadel library is named in honor of he and his brother.
